I'm currently writing to you from my college dorm room, and I can't help but feel a little bittersweet about everything. 18 years is a long time to be living in one place. That being said, I'm obviously excited. As cliché as it sounds, college is a time of "growth" and I'm really excited about having lots of independence. However, with all the excitement there are still many things that I'll miss from my home, NYC (besides friends and family of course). Here is a little visual list.
1. The Food
Obviously. New York City has some of the most amazing food and I've been incredibly spoiled by it. College food usually has a bad rep, but thankfully Philly also has some great options.
2. The Architecture
NYC and Manhattan in itself has some of the most amazing edifices. I'm definitely going to miss being constantly surrounded by beautiful structures that I'm always craning my neck to look at.
3. Central Park
Manhattan is kind of the best of both worlds because even though it's mostly urban, you have a huge park right smack in the middle of the city. I'll definitely miss being able to take long walks, read on benches and hang out on the Great Lawn when I need some peace and quiet.
4. The Art
I like to think of NYC as just one huge eclectic art gallery. Whether you're on the Upper East Side or Chelsea, you'll always be able to find the most amazing artwork. I'll miss being able to go to The Met and know that there will be at least one exhibit that I'll like.
5. My Dog
Leaving behind a pet is always sad, especially because they have no idea where you went. When my brother left for college, our dog Zelda would sleep outside the front door waiting for him to come home. I'll miss the daily sloppy kisses and head bumps of affection.
For those of you who are leaving for college, what are you going to miss about home? Let me know in the comments below! Until next time,
